The Art of Side Projects

January 2025

Why Side Projects Matter

Side projects are where creativity and freedom collide. They're the playgrounds of experimentation, the places where you can break all the rules without worrying about deadlines, clients, or best practices.

But side projects are more than just fun. They’re a training ground for skills that you never knew you needed. Whether it’s building a personal dashboard in Tauri or experimenting with Three.js for a stunning portfolio, each project becomes a stepping stone toward something bigger.

The beauty of side projects is that they don't need to be perfect. In fact, the more chaotic they are, the better. Some of the most innovative products were born from ideas that seemed too crazy or impractical at first.

Lessons Learned

  • Don’t overthink. Sometimes the best ideas come from the simplest beginnings.
  • Consistency beats perfection. Shipping is better than endlessly polishing.
  • Have fun. It’s your project—make it weird, make it bold, make it yours.

My Personal Dashboard Journey

I started building my personal dashboard on Tauri as a way to organize my digital life. What began as a simple launcher for games and apps quickly grew into a full-fledged productivity tool. I added widgets for music, weather, and even a custom notes page inspired by Notion. The project kept evolving, and the best part? It’s still evolving.
